The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has postponed indefinitely the public hearing on allegations of fraudulent diversion of over N1 trillion leveled against the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde.
Dr. George Uboh, the Chief Executive Officer of Panic Alert Security Systems, had petitioned the Senate through the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi, alleging that Lamorde connived with other EFCC officials to short-change the Federal Government in the remittance of funds and properties recovered from a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and former Inspector- General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun.
Following the petition, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo East) invited the petitioner and took his evidence last Wednesday. Lamorde was also invited to appear in order to defend himself on the various allegations raised in the petition but he wrote the Committee, requesting to be booked another day to enable him come with all the necessary documents as requested by the lawmakers.
At the first sitting of the Committee on the matter last week, Senator Anyanwu, read the letter from the EFCC boss, where he sought the permission of the Probe Panel to appear at a later date when the comprehensive annual audit report of the Commission would have been received from KPMG, an audit firm handling the audit of the agency. New Telegraph learnt that the Committee later resolved to give Lamorde one week extension, and specifically asked him to appear before it today for the continuation of the hearing.
