The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, failed to endorse President Goodluck Jonathan as the candidate of the South-East, South-South in the February 14 presidential election.
This came as the Amb. Mabazuruike Amaechi-led Elders Council of the group insisted that the tenure of the present administration, led by the President General, Chief Enwo Igarigwe, has expired.
Mbazuruike,a first republic Minister of Aviation, had set-up a 19-man transitional caretaker committee to steer the leadership of the body on January 7, 2014 following the expiration of the incumbent administration.
South-East Publicity Secretary of the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC,Mr. Osita Okechukwu, queried Ohanaeze’s leadership on the achievements of Jonathan in the South-East that should prompt the endorsement of Jonathan.
Jonathan’s endorsement, put forward by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, was not seconded prompting the adjournment of the meeting.
Contrary to impressions that the South-East and Igbo votes will go to President Goodluck Jonathan in the February14 presidential polls, Founder of the Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) and Deputy Secretary of the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT), Evangelist Elliot Uko, said the Igbo may vote for Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reason: President Jonathan and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appear to be taking Ndigbo for granted while the APC and Buhari are making in-roads. Vanguard
