Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has called on the church and men of God to assist people in authority in Nigeria to overcome their challenges for the entrenchment of peace, stability and good governance needed for socio-economic development of the country.
The governor noted that the church has made and continues to make very positive and significant contributions to the development of the society through the unrelenting proclamation of faith and promotion of values and principles that lead to the betterment of the society.
Governor Ugwuanyi in an address when he received in audience a delegation from the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Enugu Province. led by its Arch Bishop, His Grace. Barr. Christopher Ede at the Government House, Enugu encouraged the church to intensity efforts to remain the global force and voice that it has become in the socio-economic life of the society.
“we will therefore continue to consider and treat the church and the priests as veritable and inseparable partners in the quest to bring about sustainable development and also entrench peace stability and good governance in Enugu State”, the governor said.
The state chief executive observed that the responsibilities placed on political office holders to deliver on the expectations of the people are immense, adding that since God is the source of power and with the support and prayers of church as a whole that the would succeed in their assignment.
The governor pledged the support of his administration to the church in its effort to ensure that the work of God continues to flourish in Enugu State.
The leader of the delegation, l\/lost Rev. Barr. Christopher Ede informed the governor that Enugu Methodist Church is 40 years as a Diocese and as Archdiocese, adding that forty tears has to do with a generation and a period of probation leading to promotion and substantive concretization.
He added that the church in the state has planned events to celebrate “this Ruby anniversary of attaining 40 years.
The Archbishop enumerated activities to be involved as International Crusade and leaders and Ministers Conference in Enugu State. He added that the church ultra modern Specialist Hospital in the state would also be officially opened by the prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria to mark the occasion.
The man of God invited the governor to declare the crusade open.
