Aviation unions have suspended their planned strike, which was scheduled to begin Monday, following the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and senior ministry officials.
The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUCPTRE) announced the suspension in a joint statement yesterday.
The unions had earlier threatened to withdraw services from August 11, 2025, over unresolved demands for improved remuneration.
However, they cited “positive developments,” including the release of a “no objection” letter from the Budget Office to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, and assurances from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) that new salaries would be paid alongside August wages.
“In order to demonstrate good faith, our unions have taken the decision to defer the strike action… pending the state of affairs at the end of August 2025,” the statement read.
Keyamo attributed the breakthrough to his long-standing relationship with labour unions, which, he said, had fostered constructive dialogue. “By showing absolute good faith, the issues will be resolved one by one,” he assured.
The unions called on NAMA staff to remain hopeful and maintain solidarity as negotiations continue.
