As the Benue State government has concluded on the downward review of civil servants’ salaries, the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to resist the slashing with their last drop of blood.
Speaking with newsmen on Friday, the state chairman of the union, Comrade Simon Anchaver, stated that workers in the state would not accept the slashing of their salaries, stating that, “salaries are reviewed upward and not downward.”
The state government had decided to review downward the workers’ salaries so as to be able to pay primary school teachers’ salaries who, early this week, suspended its nine-month industrial action over non-implementation of new minimum wage.
Anchaver stated that the state working committee of the union met and resolved not to accept the new policy of the state government to slash their salaries, adding that workers might be forced to embark on a strike if government effected its policy.
