A building in the office Complex of the Nigerian Football Federation in Wuse Zone 7, Abuja was on Wednesday gutted by fire.
The fire incident which was said to have started at about 10 am affected mainly the offices of the Chief Accountant, the General Secretary and the ICT unit.
The fire was said to have started at the office of the Chief Accountant as smoke which gradually developed into full blown inferno before the arrvial of fire fighters.
The combined team of the operatives fore the arrival of the operarives of the Federal Fire Services and the Federal Capital Territory Fire Services, was said to have arrived the scene within 15 minutes but could not gain access into the building until about eight minutes later.
Deputy Controller in Charge of Operations, FCT Fire Service, Mr. Julius Opetunsin, said the manner cars were parked on the premises prevented his men to gain quick access to the scene of incident.
Though Opetunsin said the cause of the fire could not be identified until an investigation is conducted, some NFF officials suspected the fire could have been triggered by electrical fault.
The fire destroyed among other items, books and other office equipment in the affected offices.
The offices are located on the top floor of a storey building within the premises of the NFF office complex.
NFF president, Aminu Maigari, described the incident as an act of God.
“I won’t want to apportion blame, let just take it as an act of God. We want to thank the fire fighters for responding within a short period of time,” he said. Punch
