The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has called for collaboration between the state government and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency on road maintenance to avoid duplication of efforts and resources.
He added that it would also ensure better results.
Addressing the Controller of Works, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr. Omotayo Awosanya, and the Chief Engineer, FERMA, Mr. Tunde Ige, the governor said such road maintenance cooperation was necessary in the interest of the people.
A statement on Tuesday by Ahmed’s Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, said the governor spoke while inspecting the Ohan Bridge along Alapa in Asa Local Government Area of the state. The bridge links Kwara and Oyo states.
The governor said such synergy would ensure a proper utilisation of resources.
He commended the Federal Government for its intervention on the Ajasse-Ipo – Offa-Erin-Ile Road.
Ahmed also implored the Federal Government to resume the rehabilitation of the stalled intervention, adding that it would not only boost economic activities in the areas but reduce accident rate along the road.
While inspecting the recently completed Oke Andi Road in the Sango area of Ilorin, Ahmed promised that infrastructural development of the state would be evenly spread.
Meanwhile, the governor has offered an automatic employment to a volunteer traffic warden, Mr. Taiwo Akindele from Ekiti Local Government.
He was absorbed into the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency to a young man.
Taiwo had been carrying out a voluntary traffic control at Lajorin/Town Planning Junction and Offa Road/Flower Garden Junction in Ilorin, the state capital.
The governor, who was coming from unscheduled visits to Ministries and Departments and Parastatals, was reportedly surprised to see Akindele along Offa Road/Flower Garden Junction doing the voluntary work with so much excitement.
Ahmed was said to have been so impressed by Akindele’s patriotic zeal that he halted his convoy and watched the young man in action.
He later directed the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr Abubakar Kannike, to ensure that KWATMA offered him a job immediately.
Ahmed also in company with the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sola Gold, gave Akindele N100,000 in appreciation of his efforts.
He said, “This is the kind of positive disposition we expect from our youths in Kwara State. Our youths must display leadership qualities in all ramifications and instances without expecting rewards. However, such efforts can never go unappreciated as somebody somewhere is definitely watching.”
Akindele was said to be overwhelmed by Ahmed’s gesture and promised to continue to be useful to the society.
