Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and Governor of Kano state, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso yesterday submitted his declaration of interest and nomination forms aimed at actualising his bid for the exalted seat of the presidency.
Kwankwaso, who formally presented the forms to members of the national working committee (NWC) led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, said to the best of his knowledge, President Goodluck Jonathan is serving out his second term tenure by May 29, 2015.
Kwankwaso who was accompanied by one of his predecessors, Major-General Idris Garba, and a horde of his supporters said another four-year term for President Jonathan would be tantamount to a breach of the 1999 constitution as amended.
Expressing optimism that the law courts would put a stop to President Jonathan’s re-election bid, he particularly singled out the spate of insecurity bedeviling the polity to underline the fact that the President Jonathan-led administration has failed to live up to the expectations of Nigerians.
Promising to play by the rules at the party’s’ primaries billed to hold in December, he lamented that Nigeria which used to play the “Big Brother” role in Africa has suddenly found itself at the receiving end to the extent of going cap in hand to less endowed countries like Chad and Niger for help to curtail the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents.
Accusing the president Jonathan-led administration of taking advantage of the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram insurgents to fan the embers of discord among Nigerians to score political goals, he remarked that going by his political antecedence over the years, he has the wherewithal to ensure the defeat of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 poll.
He noted: “The APC, by the grace of God, not only at the centre, will win so many states in this country. With my candidature, you can be rest assured that more than half of PDP members would vote for me because most of them are my friends, many of them wanted to come to our party but for very obvious reasons they couldn’t because of blackmail and intimidation, they are finding it extremely difficult to leave that party.
