Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Najeem Salaam, yesterday confirmed the Assembly’s receipt of the petition from a state High Court Judge, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede, calling for the impeachment of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Salam told Daily Sun in Osogbo that the Assembly would write a letter of acknowledgement to the petitioner and equally write to the governor to defend himself against the allegations contained in the impeachment letter.
“Yes, we received the petition and we acknowledged it. But there is nothing we can do now because of the strike. Workers’ strike is affecting our sittings,” Salaam said.
“We will send a copy of the petition to the governor for his defence. We will deliberate on it by the time the strike is over,” he added.
The House of Assembly which has 26 members, is dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with 24 lawmakers, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has just two.
