All the governors elected on the platform of the PDP will meet today over the controversies surrounding the various congresses that elected the flag bearers of the party.
The meeting is being summoned by the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State..
Today’s meeting, billed for Akwa Ibom Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja by 6pm would be an attempt to identify how best to pacify governors whose immediate political aspirations had been turned down. They include Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State and Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, who dropped their senatorial ambitions when the heat became too much. Another affected governor is Dr. Martin Eelechi of Enonyi State whose anointed candidate, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu lost in the primaries.
It was learnt that Governor Godswill Akpabio personally signed the statement inviting them to the meeting which is considered very crucial to the sustenance of the unity of the state executives, who play much role in strengthening the party.
The meeting, according to Governor Akpabio, is mandatory for all PDP governors.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Thursday, December 18, deadline for all registered political parties to submit the names of their candidates for the February 14 Presidential and National Assembly elections and the February 28 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced the collation and harmonisation of lists of the congresses conducted to elect its candidates.
The political parties are to submit the names of their candidates to INEC in a forwarding letter signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary, in the case of PDP, Adamu Mu’azu and Wale Adewale, respectively.
