Four men suspected to be thugs of the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Enugu State, Chief Okey Ezea, were arrested by the Police while destroying billboards and other advertising outdoor signs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The four suspects were on Thursday night arrested by men of the New Haven Divisional Police station who were on patrol and are being detained in the police station at the time of filling this report.
Efforts by Ezea who stormed the police station with a retinue of tough-looking men suspected to be political thugs, to free the suspects met a brick wall when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) refused all his entreaties, insisting that the matter must be properly investigated.
It was said that Ezea resorted to verbal threats as the DPO remained adamant.
It was also learnt that he threatened to deal with the DPO after the elections and angrily left the police station, however, promising to return and finish the matter.
Parts of the vandalized billboards recovered from the suspects, including the torn flexi materials, iron bars, props were seen at the police station.
A reliable Police source confirmed that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
