The Senate on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 confirmed the appointment of the service chiefs after a screening in a closed session stretching over four hours.
The service chiefs, Tukur Buratai (Chief of Army Staff), Sadique Abubakar (chief of air staff), Abayomi Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff) and Ibok-Ete Ibas (Chief of Naval Staff), were confirmed after the President asked the Senate to “kindly confirm” them according to the extant laws.
Emerging from the screening, Senate president Bukola Saraki said, “Having successfully completed the screening, I congratulate the Service Chiefs. It is clear their appointment is based on merit.”
