The governor of Enugu State, Barr Sullivan Chime on Sunday called on the people of the state to support the in-coming government of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to succeed.
Speaking at a mini-victory ceremony held at the Government Lodge, Enugu, Chime thanked the people of the state for coming out en mass to vote for the party in the Saturday governorship and House of Assembly elections.
“We came to thank God. To have the opportunity to say thanks to the people of Enugu State for the solidarity they gave to the state and party.”
“We give God all the thanks that in the past eight years, we have been able to bring our state under one party.
“We should continue to speak with one voice. I thank the people of the state for delivering as we requested to return all members of our House Assembly from our party,” he said.
According to the “performing” governor, all well-meaning people of the state should respect the office of the governor.
“I want to make it clear that we just elected a new leader. Anyone who loves Enugu state must respect his office and support him.”
“It is burden for the new governor in the next 8 years to lead the state and provide quality leadership and governance. My appeal to everyone is that voting him in is one thing and supporting him is another,” he said.
Chime said that Ugwuanyi’s support in the state is unprecedented and so is the expectations. But he appealed to the people who supported him to be calm and take things as they come as the new government will not give appointment to everybody at the same time, adding that those it could not reach today, tomorrow could be their own turn.
“I would plead that we know that many people like and offered support to him in one way or the other. We should not ask him for what he cannot do.”
“He received solid support through voting, financial support and other devotions. Do not go to him tomorrow to remind him of your support because he cannot give everyone appointment at the same time. I am speaking from experience.”
“We thank God for this opportunity to serve our people. We hope and believe that he will perform more than expected. I will give him all the support for him to succeed. If you made sacrifice for us to win, you will make more for him to succeed. I wish him a very successful 8 years tenure,” he stated.
Earlier in his speech, the party chairman, Chief Ikeji Asogwa assured the people of the state that Ugwuanyi’s administration will not fail to deliver on its promises.
