The immediate-past Group Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of Diamond Bank, Chief Alex Otti, has said his ambition to contest the Abia governorship race next year was borne out of his interest to move the state forward by correcting the errors of the past.
Otti, who resigned his plumb job to contest for governor in his home state under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), told senior journalists at the weekend in Lagos that he was succumbing to the pressure from well meaning people from different quarters to bail out the state from its present state of decay.
The banker cum politician said if the desired change in the state must be achieved, “it must start from us,” assuring that, “if elected governor, I will pursue the radical change with anger and not with hunger.”
He said: “I have what it takes to turn the state around economically because the good people that want me in the race are not unmindful of the fact that, if I could manage about 12, 000 staff of a bank, who are highly intelligent in boardroom politics to achieve massive transformation, I should be able to replicate the feat for a state with about three million people.”
He said it was not easy dumping a career of which one had reached a comfort zone with six years more ahead for an uncertainty, adding that it would take someone with great passion for his people to do so.
The governorship aspirant, who lamented the sorry state of Aba, which used to be the hub of economic pillar of the South-East and the whole of the country, said he had a blueprint for the city and assured the people of finding money to execute the blueprint.
