Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was on Saturday night, barred from travelling abroad by security agents at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
Sanusi, was said to be traveling to France by a Turkish Airline at about midnight, but was forced to discontinue the trip for undisclosed reason(s).
It was gathered that during his interrogation with the DSS, Sanusi confronted them with a recent court order reinstating his right to free movement, a development which caused the officers to also make further contacts to their superiors regarding the next line of action.
Sanusi was finally left to go home but his international passport was eventually seized by the security agents, said the source who didn’t want to be named.
A highly placed senior security officer, while offering insight into the development, told Daily Sun that the embattled governor of the CBN may have been held back following ongoing investigations against him.
“It may have been considered unwise to allow him to travel abroad at this time when investigation regarding him is in progress,” he said, stressing that it would be wiser for Mallam Sanusi to wait for the conclusion of the investigation before travelling abroad.
The security source also suspected that Mallam Sanusi , might not have bothered to properly communicate the details of his current trip to the relevant authorities.
