The Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), the umbrella body of Tiv associations in Taraba, has raised the alarm over the existence of a Fulani militia that is bent on thwarting the current efforts of the state government to ensure peace returns to troubled areas in the state.
In a press statement issued in Jalingo on Saturday, the group warned that if not quickly curtailed, the activities of the militia were capable of snowballing into a serious conflagration.
In the statement, which was signed by its President, Mr James Nungwa, the group noted that the rising wave of indiscriminate and brutal murder of clergymen and farmers in various parts of the state in the last two months was of grave concern and posed serious threat to the peace and development of the state.
The group further noted that no fewer than 30 people had been killed within the period under review despite efforts by the state governor, Architect Darius Ishaku to restore permanent peace to troubled areas of the state which encouraged internally displaced persons to start returning to their respective homes.
