There was jubilation in Ogbede, the headquarters of Igbo-Etiti LGA, in Enugu State, as scores of natural disaster victims got relief materials sent to them by the Enugu State government.
There had been cries of anguish months ago from various parts of Igbo-Etiti that were struck by these disasters, especially rain storms and floodings that had destroyed many homes, farmlands and roads with many being rendered homeless and with no means of livelihood.
Then the state government swung into action through the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency.
The agency visited the affected disaster areas to assess and document the extent of damage.
As a result, the agency was on hand recently with tons of relief materials ranging from food items, clothing materials, beds and blankets, provisions, etc to provide succour for the victims.
Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Malachy Agbo, the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Etiti LGA, represented by the Council Secretary, Hon. Moses Agudegwu, praised the efforts of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in working tirelessly for the welfare of the people.
He said “when these disasters struck the government assured it would extend a helping hand to the our people who were victims. They carefully documented the victims and today, everyone involved will be receiving assistance. We praise the Governor for always being there for us and the entire people of Enugu State”.
He thus assured the government of the continued prayers and support of the people, noting that it was a pact between the governor and Igbo-Etiti people that he must get their one hundred percent vote come 2019.
On her part, the Executive Secretary of Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Nkechi Ene, while officially handing over the materials to the victims restated the commitment of the governor on the well being of the people of the state.
She said “The governor is a man who never jokes with the welfare and lives of our people. We were coming from other areas he had also sent materials to alleviate the plight of our people who were victims of one natural disaster or the other. We brought these here on his behalf to ease your pain. While we cannot stop natural disasters from occuring, we can actually minimize the effects through efforts like these. So we keep thanking him for this”.
The recipients sang and danced with joy and showered praises on Governor Ugwuanyi for his humane and purpose-driven leadership in the State.
They declared they had no other candidate for the position of governor come 2019 as the people of the area were through and through PDP.
