The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi says her office is ready to partner with institutions and organizations put in place to empower and better the lives of women in the state through organized skills acquisition.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi made the assertion when she received in audience the executive members of Fashion Design Association of Nigeria (FADAN) led by its state coordinator and head of department, Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu in her office at the Government House, Enugu.
She noted that empowering women is one of her cardinal priorities, adding that her office would ensure that women in the state are engaged in meaningful ventures towards eschewing idleness and poverty in the state.
Her Excellency assured the Association that her office would collaborate with it, especially in the area of skill acquisition and training of women using the occasion to invite women from all walks of life, women wings of faith feared organization and non-governmental organizations (NGSs) to the international women’s day celebration coming up on the 8th March, 2016 at Okara Square, Enugu.
Earlier in her address, the Enugu State Coordinator of FADAN, Mrs. Offor Obiageli noted that the visit was to intimate her Excellency about the activities and programmes of the Association and to explore areas of relevance with a view to partnering with her.
Mrs. Offor explained that FADAN is a certified body for professional in fashion and designing dully incorporated in 1989 by the then Federal Ministry of Trade and Corporate Affairs while Enugu State became a member in 2013 after the department was accredited in 2009.
The state coordinator also stated that the mission and vision of FADAN is to contribute to the development of Nigerian Creative Industry with emphasis on the fashion sector.
She noted with dismay that the awareness created for the programme was not encouraging following the wrong impression of what fashion design and clothing technology was all about considering its usefulness.
Mrs. Offor further noted that FADAN through its objectives was geared towards bettering the lives of women and humanity as it reduced the quest for white collar job and encouraged self reliance and employment.
