A victim of the bomb blast which rocked a motor park in Nyanya, a satellite community within the Federal Capital Territory, Mary Modu, was on Friday in Abuja adopted by the Abuja Sub-Council of Knights of St. Malumba, an order within the Catholic Church.
She lost some parts of her body including her left leg and right hand
“I don’t even know what to say; God will bless them, their families, homes and everything that belongs to them,” a cheerful Modu told Saturday PUNCH.
The KSM led by its Worthy Grand Knight, Dr. Frank Odafen, announced the gesture after a road walk to Wuse General Hospital where they donated N280,000 and other items including food and blood for victims.
According to him, the church decided to adopt the girl and henceforth take up the responsibility of her care because she has a special case.
He said, “On the hierarchy of needs, her condition is more serious from our own judgment. She is an amputee, a young girl and you can see that she looks psychologically drained and despondent. So it is our duty as knights to bring hope and happiness to her where there is despair and sadness. That’s why we are adopting her among all other patients.
“The cash is N280,000 and we also gave goods and other items. We can’t quantify them but from what we are seeing here, the goods are about N500, 000. We cannot also quantify the blood donated by our men and women to the hospital.” Punch
