Recently redeployed Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in-charge of Zone 2 Command comprising Lagos and Ogun Police commands, Mr. Joseph Mbu, yesterday, warned politicians not to bring their thugs close to polling booths on election days, threatening to arrest any armed thugs and prosecute them alongside their sponsors.
He also advised policemen to be apolitical in the discharge of their duties on election day saying that the election was a great assignment and an opportunity for them to write history.
Addressing officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command yesterday, Mbu warned that they should not allow themselves to be used or intimidated by any politician or political party, before or during the elections, assuring to defend any policeman who tread on the right path.
He further threatened to hold Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders responsible for the misbehavior of their subordinates, warning that “if a DPO is good, his subordinates will emulate his good virtues but if he is bad,his men will equally do same. Any DPO found wanting would be made to face my wrath”.
Also former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has urged Nigerians to shun propaganda and vote for the right candidate during the general elections.
Obanikoro led the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Support Team in some parts of Lagos State in an unprecedented kind of road show.
According to him; “I was shocked by those who dropped what they were doing to join the show which became a kind of movement to pass a message. The people have shown their support for continuity and for a change in governance in Lagos that will give human face to policies.”
On her part, Lagos socialite, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu has called on governorship candidates in the state to shun divisive attitudes in order to avoid endangering peaceful coexistence in the state.
Dosunmu said this at a debate convened for governorship candidates in the state, by the Coalition of Concerned Women For Good Governance in conjunction with Erelu Abiola Foundation, ERAF in Lagos.
