The result of the Rivers State governorship election, so far released by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dame Gesila Khan, showed that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Nyesom Wike is leading.
Out of the 17 local government areas so far released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wike won in 15 Local Government Areas, while Dr. Dakuku Peterside won in two.
A breakdown of the results showed that in Abua/Odual LGA, the PDP candidate got 46,392 votes while the APC candidate got 790 votes, Wike got 32,150 votes in Asari-Toru while Dr. Dakuku got 566 votes.
In Tai Local Government Area, the PDP candidate scored 32,988 while his APC counterpart got 2,219. Wike also got 10,735 votes in Omuma LGA, to defeat the APC candidate who polled 3,376 votes . The PDP candidate garnered 70,317 votes in Andoni to defeat the APC candidate, who scored 5,278 votes among others.
Meanwhile, APC has written a petition to INEC, calling for the cancellation of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
In a petition dated April 12, 2015 and signed by the state chairman of the party, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, APC alleged that the elections were fraught with irregularities.
