Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State said his administration is targeting monthly internally generated revenue of N1.5bn.
Abia’s federation allocation had dropped from over N3bn to little less than N2bn following the dwindling oil price.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Godwin Adindu, who disclosed this in a chat with our correspondent in Umuahia, said some reputable consultants had already been engaged to actualise the target.
He said the drop in federal allocation accruing to the state had made it imperative to explore ways to shore up the IGR of the state to enable government effectively discharge its financial responsibilities.
Adindu stated, “We have engaged reputable consultants to harness the huge IGR in the state. The goal is to drive the IGR from N500m monthly to N1.5 billion.”
He said the governor had already declared war on double taxation with a vow to eradicate touts and illegal agents in the state’s revenue drive.
