The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that his party will not protest the outcome of the 2015 election if it loses.
However, he said that would only be so if the exercise is free and fair pointing out that APC will still go to court even after Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State had conceded victory to Mr. Ayo Fayose, as the winner of last month’s governorship election in the state.
Mohammed, who was speaking yesterday in Oro, Kwara State with newsmen insisted that the election in Ekiti State was not free and fair.
According to him, it is not enough that the election was not rigged through ballot boxes, noting that it is equally pertinent that armed soldiers and policemen were not unleashed on the citizens to intimidate people at the polling centres.
He described the development in Ekiti as a national loss for democracy and not that of the APC.
He lamented that Governor Fayemi did not lose the election because of non-performance but because the people “rejected he that promised to prefer he that did not promise anything and whom from whom nothing could be expected.
“You can see that Fayemi was not rejected because of non-performance, but just because they preferred someone who will be buying things for them by the roadside and not facing the serious business of governance.”
He accused President Goodluck Jonathan of abusing his power to subvert democracy by alleged intimidating deployment of armed security personnel to Ekiti State on the day of election.
“Jonathan is Nigeria’s number one enemy. He has placed his re-election bid above the governance of the country. Any politician who is not prepared to lose election cannot be prepared for the joy of victory,” Mohammed added.
Were soldiers not deployed during Edo election? the then ACN won. Why did he not say voters were intimidated? Nonsense!
Why dissipate energy instead of going to court to challenge the result of Ekiti Election. Lai Mohammed, are you no ashamed of yourself, for Allah sake. Must every election end up in violence which is the trademark of APC?
