The Rwanda football governing body, Ferwafa, has requested the Confederation of African Football (CAF) move its next month 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against the Super Eagles to another venue due to the deadly disease, Ebola.
Nigeria is expected to play Rwanda on September 5 in Calabar, for its Group A qualifying match.
President of the Rwanda football governing body, Vincent Degaule Nzamwita, disclosed that his players would not want to risk playing in Nigeria.
“We are worried about the spread of the Ebola Virus in Nigeria and we are scared of entering the country.
“We have requested CAF to switch the match venue to a safer one and we are waiting for a decision to be made. We are also waiting on Government to make a decision on how exactly we can make sure the players and entire delegation are safe,” he said.
NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire informed that the football house is yet to be communicated by CAF.
“As I am talking to you now, we have not be communicated to by CAF, but as far as I’m concerned, Calabar is safe for the encounter,” Olajire said.
Ebola was detected in Guinea in March and has since spread to Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria. Over 1000 people have lost their lives to the deadly virus in West Africa and authorities are recording 1,848 confirmed or suspected cases. 10 cases have been reported in Lagos.
