Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it would commence the electronic registration and revalidation of its members between January 5 and 28, 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
The Chairman of the party in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, disclosed this during an end-of-the-year briefing with journalists in Lagos.
He said the exercise which would be followed by congresses across the state is designed to create a credible, comprehensive, and verifiable database of party members across the state.
According to Ojelabi, the e-registration will cover both existing members, who are expected to undergo revalidation, and new members who wish to join the party. The exercise will be conducted simultaneously in all 245 wards of the state.
The party is conducting the exercise in 20 local government areas and 245 wards constitutionally recognised while jettisoning the 37 local council development areas.
The chairman said APC, being a national party, is adopting the constitutionally recognised LG structure since the 37 LCDAs are not yet recognised in the constitution.
“We want to look inward and put our house in order. Before we go into the general elections, it is important for us to have accurate statistical data of the actual number of our members,” he said.
The APC chairman emphasized that party membership must be properly documented, noting that possession of a valid party membership card is essential for effective participation in party activities.
“If you claim to be a member of APC and you do not have a valid membership card, then there is a need to regularise that status,” Ojelabi added.
He called on ward leaders, party executives, and stakeholders to mobilise members at the grassroots and ensure the success of the exercise, describing grassroots participation as the backbone of the party’s electoral strength.
He noted that possession of permanent voters’ card (PVC) is a prerequisite for any Nigerian willing to register as a member of the party, adding those without PVC would also be registered but as a temporary member.
Ojelabi also pledged that the party would continue to engage the media and other stakeholders regularly in 2026 to promote transparency and accountability in its activities.
Beyond party affairs, he urged Nigerians to support the country’s leadership through prayers and collective responsibility, particularly in addressing security challenges.
According to him, the President and the governors need the prayers of all Nigerians for God to direct them in managing the affairs of the country.
“This is our country, and we all have a role to play. Development cannot take place without peace, and security is a collective responsibility,” he said.
The Lagos APC chairman expressed confidence that the e-registration exercise would further consolidate the party’s dominance in the state and prepare it for future political contests.
The Chairman also explained that the party has put in place machineries to address grievances from some members, saying the party would continue to be fair and just to its members.
Also speaking, the Publicity Secretary, Mogaji Seye Oladejo explained that the registration exercise with new members joining the party, “it has become important to begin the e-registration to be able to accommodate everybody coming in and for old members too to be able to revalidate.”
