Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, pledged his support for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the political challenges in both states, stating that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not win in Osun and Oyo.
Makinde’s remarks came after APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, claimed the APC would win in both states, following victories in Edo and Ondo.
In a veiled response, Makinde described Ganduje’s statement as a distraction from the reality on the ground, urging the people of Osun to remain firm and back Adeleke.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Stadium Roundabout/Oke Baale Roundabout/Ilesa Garage Roundabout dual carriageway in Osogbo, Makinde said that defection from the APC to the PDP in Osun two years ago was a legitimate political decision.
He reassured the people of Osun that the PDP was challenging the results of the Edo and Ondo elections in court, refuting the APC’s claims of dominance.
“The people of Osun State must come first, and they have been put first. Two years ago, they made a political choice,” Makinde said.
“They moved from one political party to the PDP. Then someone, I believe, got a bit distracted after the Edo and Ondo elections and said they are coming for Osun and Oyo. People, are you not waiting for them? You will show them.
“Well, I want to assure them that the game is not over in Edo and Ondo. We are challenging the result in court. We are a law-abiding party, and we believe that the corpse they hurriedly buried will be exhumed.”
Makinde also praised Adeleke for completing the road project initiated by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, commending his leadership for finishing what was started by a predecessor despite political differences.
“It’s not about who started the project but who completes it. Governor Adeleke has cemented his position of leadership by completing this project. I promise you my full support in the battle ahead,” Makinde added.
Governor Adeleke, in his speech, acknowledged Aregbesola’s role in the project and reiterated his commitment to finishing the work of previous administrations.
He also urged road users to prioritise safety, noting a rise in accidents on newly completed roads due to speeding and reckless driving.
Adeleke directed security agencies to enforce traffic safety codes and called for the construction of speed breakers where necessary to ensure public safety.
