The Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Friday applauded the Federal Government and the Boko Haram insurgent group for reaching an agreement to cease hostilities in the North East of the country.
Mr Bobboi Kaigam, the TUC President said in a telephone interview in Abuja that the agreement reached by both parties would usher in peace and unity in the country.
Kaigam said the ceasefire would facilitate a rebuilding process of the areas affected by the insurgence, especially in the North East.
“It is good news and it is something that we should celebrate.
“We want to see an agreement that will bring lasting peace and unity in the country.
“We want our girls to be released; we want them to have their life, family and education back.’’
Kaigam said that he hoped that the ceasefire reached would restore normalc and peace in the troubled states and Nigeria at large.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, announced on Friday in Abuja that the Federal Government had concluded a ceasefire agreement with Boko Haram.
Badeh made this known at the end of a three-day coordinating conference of the Nigeria-Cameroon Trans-border Military Operations.
Badeh had directed all service chiefs to ensure compliance with the agreement by the field officers.
The ceasefire agreement is expected to lead the release of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok, Borno State, on April 14. (NAN)
