The Cardinal Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, John Onaiyekan, has said he would a lead a protest of Catholic faithfuls in Abuja on Tuesday over the state of the nation.
The respected cleric said on Monday in a statement he personally signed that the ongoing killings across the country must stop as life is sacred.
“Because of the barbaric killing of human beings in Nigeria, and erosion of the perception of life as sacred and in union with the Diocese of Makurdi, we want to express our deepest displeasure over the ugly happenings in our country and pray for the nation. Theme: ‘Peaceful March and Prayer for Nigeria’. There will be mass, rosary procession, address to local and international media and benediction,” Onaiyekan said.
According to him, the starting point is the National Christian Centre (Ecumenical Centre) by 10am while termination point is the Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Garki, Abuja.
He said while the priests will all be in cassocks, others will come in their parish or group uniforms or black attire and that priests should also take note that white is the colour of vestment for mass.
“Trouble makers should please keep-off. I want this march and prayer to be peaceful from the beginning to the end and to send a powerful message to the government of our country and the rest of the world for positive change,” he said.
