Gov. Chime approves N2 billion for rural water/road projects, others

The Enugu State Executive Council has approved over Two Billion Naira for the execution of various developmental projects in the state.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke, in a Press Briefing at the end of the council’s meeting presided over by Governor Sullivan Chime at the Government House,
Enugu.

Commissioner Ugwoke disclosed that out of this amount, the sum of two
hundred and seventy million, four hundred and fifty-eight thousand,
six hundred and ninety-two naira (N270,458,692.00), was approved for
the execution of 2013 MDG/CGS Local Government Track Water projects in
some local government council areas in the state.  The local
governments involved according him are Awgu, Enugu East, Nkanu West,
Nsukka and Igbaeze South.

The sum of Forty-seven million, four hundred and five thousand, three
hundred and eleven naira, sixty kobo (N47,405,311.60k) was approved
for the equipment of Ministry of Transport (MOT) Test Station at Base
Workshop, Enugu.

According to the Commissioner, this equipment is in tandem with the
State Government’s vision to provide, safe, reliable and functional
transport system in the state.  He added that when fully installed and
functional, that it will help to reduce road accident and enforce
safety standards by all cadres of motor vehicle operators in the
state.

The state information boss who was accompanied in the press briefing
by the Commissioners for Gender Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Chukwu and Culture
and Tourism, Ozor Joe Mmamel as well as the Special Adviser to the
Governor on Servicom, Mr. Sylvanus Ononyima, added that the council
also approved the sum of six hundred and eighty-five million, two
hundred and sixty-six thousand, seven hundred and ninety-nine naira,
seventy kobo (N685,266,799.70k) for the procurement of civil works in the 2013 MDG projects in the state.

He noted that the approval covers jobs in health, education sectors in
Enugu East local government, Nkanu West and Awgu as well as in Udi,
Nsukka and Igboeze South local government area.

Continuing, the Commissioner said that the sum of seven hundred and
thirty-eight million, forty-three thousand, one hundred and seventeen
naira, thirty-five kobo (N738,043,117.35k) was also approved for the
completion of Akpasha – Ozalla – Agbogugu –Ihe – Owelli – Ogugu –
Nenwe – Mgbowo, Awgu – Abia State border 52km roads.  He added that

this involves the construction of 2-span bridge across Obie _ Umuhu
River in Awgu and that contract was awarded to Amitec Construction
Development Limited.

The Commissioner recalled that the former contract for the project was
terminated on April this year due to abandonment, adding that it would
now be completed and put to optimal used.

Mr. Ugwoke also said that the sum of two hundred and sixty-one
million, one hundred and seventy two thousand, eight hundred and
seventy-one naira, fifty-five kobo (N261, 172, 871.55) was approved by
the council for the supply and installation of solar power lighting
system at the premises of the new State Secretariat.

This according to him involves installation of solar lighting system
facilities for improved and uninterrupted illumination and promotion
of conducive, secure and efficient working environment.

He added that scope of work also involved procurement and installation
of 64 units of BRP.330/37W LED solar-powered lights for the perimeter
fence, 72 units of Green Vision light points for the car parks among
others.

Furthermore, the Commissioner disclosed that the council approved the sum of one hundred and eighty-five million, four hundred and eighty-four thousand naira as the State’s contribution for the purchase of 48 official cars for newly recognized traditional rulers
in the state, recalling that 363 Hyundai Elantra Salon cars were purchased for traditional rulers in the state in 2009.
